What to expect from the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB?
August 15 2022,
Mercedes-Benz is rolling out an army of electric vehicles. Listed under the EQ series, they are starting to seriously multiply in the lineup, so much so that you now have the choice, with several models, between a gasoline version or an all-electric one.
This is the case with the EQB SUV, which is the electrified variant of the GLB. Soon to be on our roads, the newcomer promises to be a success because of its more affordable price and compact size, which is very popular with buyers.
Now, what can we expect from this newcomer?
Platform
What's different about this model is that rather than being mounted on a dedicated electric platform, like other EQ models, it shares its structure with the GLB gasoline model. Thus, the dimensions are the same, as is the wheelbase, which is 116 inches.
What's even more extraordinary is that Mercedes-Benz has managed to keep the interior space intact. In fact, you only lose a few liters of cargo space, which is negligible and makes no real difference.
Third row
Better yet, like the gasoline version, this electric variant can also be equipped with a third row of seats. That's rare in the class and it's also very rare with electric models at the moment. And Mercedes-Benz says that a 5-foot-4 person can find a comfortable position in the back, so the space isn't just for young children. And of course, all the seats behind the first row can be folded down; 60-40 ratio in the second row, 50-50 in the third.
Versions
We'll have to see what's in store for us, as two versions have appeared in other markets. Without much risk of being wrong, we can expect to find the 350 4MATIC variant that will offer 288 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, as well as all-wheel drive, of course. And thanks to a 66.5 kWh battery, we expect a range of about 325 kilometers. That's to be confirmed, of course, but we won't be outdone by this model. A variant offering more range could also be on the menu.
As for recharging, the maximum capacity will be 110 kW, which will ensure fast recharging on the public network. It will be possible to recover 80 percent of the battery capacity in just 30 minutes, from a remaining energy of 10 percent.
The style
Finally, the EQB SUV will differentiate itself from its GLB cousin with a few aesthetic details unique to the company's electric models. The front grille, for example, will get the black panels we've seen on other models. The LED signature will be different and at the back, it's an LED strip that will be used as a light. The alloy wheels will have a more aerodynamic design while the roof rails will have a polished finish. The search door will be at the rear, where the GLB model's fuel door is located.
