The secret behind Mercedes-Benz GLE 350, 450, AMG 53 and AMG 63

The Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV lineup is very comprehensive. It offers something for every taste and budget, whether it's in terms of equipment or performance.

When it comes to equipment, it's pretty simple. From the base model, the essentials are there, but buyers can add option packages as they see fit. At each trim level, the equipment gets richer, but some items are always offered as options. The goal is to give you as many choices as possible, and it's a success.

Where the choices are pre-determined is under the hood. The model version you select hides, according to the number it bears, a very specific powertrain; and power just as singular.

Let's take a look at the four powertrains that can power the GLE.

Right off the bat, the 350 version comes to life with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that boasts 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. It's the perfect compromise between power and fuel economy.

Moving on to the 450 model, the displacement changes to a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder. Also aided by a turbo, as well as a light hybrid system (EQ Boost) that will also be found with the next two variants, it offers 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

If it's an AMG model you're interested in, you have two interesting options. First, the 53 variant, which uses a more powerful version of the 6-cylinder (a supercharger is added). This one suggests 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. It's starting to move in earnest.

And, if that's not enough, you can always fall back on the AMG 63 S version. With a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 under the hood and 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, you're in for a real treat. This version of the GLE is able to catapult it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

With the other models, the respective times are 7.1, 5.7 and 5.3 seconds. A nine-speed automatic transmission is used throughout, but it is tuned more sporty (Speedshift version) with the AMG models.

All in all, no matter which version you choose, you'll find something to your liking, because the model that will seduce you is the one that represents you the most. The GLE is a win-win situation.
