As part of the major refresh given to the GLE for the 2024 model year, Mercedes-Benz has added a new plug-in hybrid model to this popular SUV. Here is a look at it and the features that make it stand out.
Up to 77 kilometers of electric range
Plug-in hybrid models are ideal for drivers who aren’t quite ready to switch to a fully electric model or those who regularly go on long highway trips. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e therefore combines the best from traditional combustion-powered models and fully electric vehicles thanks to its advanced powertrain. Under the hood are a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine and a large electric motor that takes its power from a 23.3 kWh battery pack. This battery gives the GLE 450e the ability to drive up to 77 kilometres on electricity alone, which means that most drivers will never burn fuel during their regular daily commute. Once the battery is depleted or if more power is demanded, the gasoline engine cuts in seamlessly to provide hundreds of additional kilometres of range, making it possible to drive long uninterrupted trips on the highway without having to stop for a charge. Due to the power and torque of the electric motor, the 450e is also the most powerful of the non-AMG 2024 GLE models, with a combined output of 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.
An impressive level of luxury and comfort
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e benefits from the same level of equipment as the mild-hybrid GLE 450 4MATIC. This means that this model is equipped with many desirable features such as Mercedes Me Connect services, heated front and rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a power tilt / telescopic steering column, as standard. Available features include Climate Comfort front seats, heated armrests and door panels, climate controlled cupholders, a four-zone automatic climate control system, soft-close doors, rear sunshades, Nappa leather upholstery, and the Air Balance system, among others. Driver assistance is also a priority in the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE, with standard systems such as Car-to-X communication, Active Braking Assist, Active Parking Assist, and the PRE-SAFE system.
Advanced in-car tech
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e benefits from the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system, which includes the advanced voice assistant. Activated by simply saying “Hey Mercedes”, this assistant can control many vehicle functions by listening to your natural speech patterns, doing away with the need to string together carefully worded commands. The standard 12.3-inch touch screen display also makes it easy to perform adjustments, notably by allowing multiple systems to be displayed at once. Wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also offered along with a wireless charger, which means that you can simply place your phone in the charger upon entering the vehicle and seamlessly have access to all your favourite apps while your phone is getting charged.
