A look at the 2023 Mercedes-Benz convertible lineup
March 27 2023,
Spring is almost upon us and of course summer soon after that, so what better time than now to look at the latest grand touring convertibles Mercedes-Benz has to offer? For 2023, we see an impressive cross-section of powertrains, sizes and styling. If you want a luxury convertible that will provide the perfect balance of refinement, performance, comfort, and the latest in safety and connectivity technology, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz lineup is a great starting point.
2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet
While this may be the entry-level in the world of open-top Mercedes motoring, it is by no means styled or equipped as such. Available in two trims – the C 300 4Matic Cabriolet and the AMG C 43 4Matic Cabriolet – the C-Class features a range of wheel styles in 18- or 19-inches, three soft top colour choices and a variety of wood and leather interior accoutrements. Power for the C 300 model comes courtesy of a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, fed to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. Upgrading to the C 43 adds a second turbocharger and two more cylinders, for a V6 capable of a hearty 385 hp and 385 lb-ft., also going to all four wheels but this time via a twin-clutch nine-speed auto.
2023 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet
If you’re looking for a more “grand touring” vibe, then the E-Class convertible is the way to go. This one also comes in two varieties – the E 450 4Matc Cabriolet and the AMG E53+ Cabriolet – but this time, they both get six-cylinder power. The 450 gets a twin-scroll turbo inline-6 good for 362 hp and 369 lb-ft. fed through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels, while the 53+ sees those figures jump to 429 hp and 384 lb-ft., courtesy of the turbocharged motor, yes, but also thanks to the fitment of an electric auxiliary pump for even smoother acceleration. You can select from between four soft top colours for each vehicle, and wheel sizes range from 19- to 20-inches on both models as well, available in a variety of styles. Other niceties include Nappa leather interiors as well as Mercedes-Benz’ patented Airscarf technology for even more comfort when top-down cruising,
2023 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Roadster
The redesigned 2023 Mercedes-Benz SL was introduced last year and provides its owner with everything the SL has always stood out for in terms of comfort and luxury, paired with even more impressive performance. The SL is offered exclusively in AMG trim, and it offers a 4Matic all-wheel drive system to ensure the highest level of stability and control. The SL 63 4Matic+ model is equipped with a fire-breathing biturbo V8 with 577 hp and 590 lb-ft. That’s good enough for a 0-100 km/h sprint of just over 3.5 seconds. What you will be able to enjoy no matter the speed, however, is the styling provided by its new and refined exterior lines, exceptionally luxurious and well-crafted interior packed with the finest materials, 11.9” square touchscreen taken from the new-generation S-Class and housing the latest MBUX infotainment system, flat-bottom steering wheel and reconfigurable instrument panel. Handling duties are taken care of by standard 4Matic AWD as well as standard four-wheel steering and active ride control.
