2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB vs. 2021 BMW X1: A Compact Luxury SUV That Does It All

The Mercedes-Benz GLB combines luxurious features, surprising versatility, plenty of power, advanced tech, and more. It does a lot for its small size, but without any compromise on refinement. The GLB can be configured to accommodate seven passengers, a rare feature in this segment.

You won't have to worry about full loads holding the GLB back since each turbocharged model outputs impressive horsepower and torque. There are several competitors in the compact luxury segment, and here we compare the GLB to the 2021 BMW X1.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB steals the performance show

GLB series features two models—the 250 4MATIC and AMG GLB 35. The 250 includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that generates 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Despite the power, the 250 achieves a fuel consumption rating of 10.3 / 7.8 L/100 km (city highway). This includes standard all-wheel drive that is ready for Canada's roads and weather conditions.

The BMW X1 also includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that results in similar performance to the 250 4MATIC. However, everything changes when it is compared to the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLB 35.

The GLB 35 upgrades to a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that results in 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Both Mercedes-Benz engines pair with a quick-shifting, eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The BMW X1 does not have a DCT.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB is more family-friendly

Although the GLB is classified as a compact SUV, there is plenty of room and versatility that adapts to your lifestyle.

The GLB provides enough interior passenger volume to have an available third row of seats. This is especially popular with growing families who need the capacity to match up with what the day demands, whether it's hauling the hockey team or the entire family for a vacation.

Each GLB offers up to 1,755 litres of cargo volume behind the front seats—with the remaining rows folded. This amounts to nearly 100 more litres than the BMW X1. And with 560 litres of capacity behind the second row, it's easy to load up your extras and have peace of mind on trips that count.

The 202 1 Mercedes-Benz GLB offers more features, including advanced safety and convenience tech, an attractive style, and more. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
