2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe vs BMW 4 Series: dominant!

For a long time, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was seen as a bit inferior to the BMW 3-Series, especially when it came to driving pleasure. Things have changed since then, so much so that today, it's BMW's proposal that is in catch-up mode with its big rival.

This is the case for the sedans, but also for the coupe versions of both models, the C-Class coupe and the 4-Series on the BMW side. While the latter is certainly interesting, it doesn't make the grade in the comparison game.

The reason? It's simple, rather; the C-Class coupe is so dominant. Here's what makes it so.

The engines

In the past, BMW's engines were known for their performance qualities, while Mercedes-Benz' engines were mostly touted for their smoothness and flexibility.

That doesn't hold true today. In fact, as an engine manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz has nothing to envy to BMW. And this is visible throughout the range, not to mention the company's approach. Let's take the high-performance models as an example: the C 63 S from Mercedes and the M4 from BMW. With Benz, you always get a thunderous V8 engine. And what a powerhouse it is, with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque!

BMW decided to go with a turbocharged 6-cylinder to power the family beast. It's nice with 472 horsepower, but the experience isn't the same without the sound of a V8.

The ride

It wasn't that long ago, too, that BWM products were considered more interesting and engaging to drive than Mercedes-Benz products. Today, the forces have been reversed. Pleasure is constant in a Mercedes-Benz product, whereas in a BMW, enjoyment is diluted by the many electronic crutches that interfere with the experience.

As such, successive road tests of both models will convince you; we're sure of it.

The Class

BMW's image is strong, but Mercedes-Benz's is even stronger. That's what counts when you're looking for a great luxury product. And that's not to mention that when it comes to design, you get something classic and timeless with the C-Class.

On the BMW side, the new 4 Series grille design is still the talk of the town, months after the model presentation. Who knows how this styling approach will stand the test of time.

For the best choice and total peace of mind, the solution lies with the C-Class coupe.
