2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs 2020 Volvo XC90: More Power and Advanced Technology
September 29 2020,
Mercedes-Benz updates the GLE luxury crossover with an improved wheelbase, refined agility, and better aerodynamics. Combined with a dominant range of available horsepower, the GLE elevates its driving experience above many other SUVs.
There are many mid-size luxury SUVs to choose from throughout the segment. However, the GLE proves to be a difficult competitor. Here, we compare it to the Volvo XC90.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE connects driver and vehicle
The GLE features the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system. This is the most advanced human-vehicle interaction technology in the industry. Through an array of touchscreens and a voice-activated personal assistant, MBUX lets you control an array of vehicle functions. It also uses artificial intelligence to learn your habits and use the knowledge to help you more efficiently find favorite places, entertainment, and more. You won't experience a system this advanced on the XC90.
Aside from the many luxurious features, the GLE is more versatile than the XC90. It has over 2,000 litres of flexible cargo volume behind the front seats, making family trips more convenient. The XC90 comes up short to the GLE's total by up to 195 litres in the same configuration.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE pushes the performance barrier
The GLE opens the competition with three engines that are telling of the focus on performance. The GLE 350 begins the lineup with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 255 horsepower and a responsive 273 lb-ft of torque. The XC90 gets the T5, a 250-horsepower engine that produces 258 lb-ft of torque. Although close in horsepower, the GLE 350 gets an edge in performance here.
The GLE 450 4MATIC moves up to a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine. Generating 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, the 450 extends its numbers over the XC90's next powerful engine, the T6 which only gets 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
When top power is required, the AMG GLE 53 delivers 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. Compare this to the Volvo's T8 eAWD hybrid engine at 400 horsepower, and the GLE comes out on top.
GLE owners receive the performance benefits of a nine-speed automatic transmission, topping the XC90's eight speed automatic.
The GLE is more powerful, more refined and more versatile than the XC90. You can shop for your Mercedes-Benz online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
